When building a brand, the best buy scam is not the way to do it. The key ingredients to building a good reputation are consistency, attentiveness, and doing the right thing. Many of the larger brands seem to forget that; they get so large they can no longer see the little people down below.

Our Incognito Worldwide CEO was quoted as once saying, “Money is not the goal, that is just the result of a job well done.”

But another quote from the film Wall Street seems to be more closely aligned with the multi-national brands.

“How much is enough? …. More!”

It is hard to imagine a company as large as Best Buy being so dismissive of customer issues, yet, as this incident demonstrates, to them, it appears to be just numbers. If a few people here and there get screwed, so be it; the larger number of successful transactions is the focus.

In the past ten years, our CEO has had two terrible experiences with Best Buy, neither of which has been resolved. In fact, Best Buy never even attempted to resolve them, and that is where they fail. They’re a cookie-cutter assembly line, and if God forbid your issue falls outside that assembly line, you’re kicked to the curb.

What do you think consumers should do? Not much, except band together and deliver consequences. While we’re not a huge customer of Best Buy, we have bought all our electronics there for years—until today. As of today, we’ll do our small part and find other sources that recognize customers and at least attempt to deliver customer satisfaction.

A good brand isn’t judged by how it operates when things go well, but by how it reacts and responds when things don’t.
