How To Ruin Brand Reputation

When building a brand, the best buy scam is not the way to do it. The key ingridients to building a good reputation are consistency, attentveness, and just doing the right thing. A lot of the larger brands seem to forget that; they get so large they can no longer see the little people down below.

Our CEO was quote as once saying “Money is not the goal, that is just the result of a job well done.”

But another quote from the film Wall Street seems to be more closely aligned with the multi-nationa brands.

“How much is enough? …. More!”

It is hard to imagine a company as large as Best Buy being so dismissive of customer issues, yet, as this incident demonstrates, to them is appears to just be numbers. If a few people here and there get screwed, so be it, the larger number of successful transactions is the focus.

In the past ten years our CEO had two terrible experiences with Best Buy, neither one every resolved — in fact, Best Buy never even attempted to resolve them, and that is where they fail. They’re a cookie-cutter assembly line, and if God forbid your issue falls outside that assembly one, you’re kicked to the curb.

What can consumers do? Not much, except to band together and deliver consequences. While we’re not a huge customer of Best Buy, we have bought all our electronics there for years. Until today. As of today we’ll do our small part and find other sources that recognize customers and at least attempt to deliver customer satisfaction.

A good brand isn’t judged by how they operate when things go well, but how the react and respond when things don’t.
